Press on Kazakhstan’s Presidency in UNSC

The article about Nursultan Nazarbayev’s speech at the UN Security Council meeting was published in Washington Post, one of the largest American daily newspapers. The authors wrote about the President’s appeal to North Korea to follow Kazakhstan’s example and renounce the nuclear weapon. The newspaper also cited the Kazakh President’s proposal to secure nonaggression safeguards from nuclear powers for North Korea, highlighting that it was the “important condition for creating an atmosphere of trust” between the states “and Pyongyang’s return to the negotiation table”. It is also said that Kazakhstan has strengthened its positions and international reputation by renouncing nuclear weapons.

Asian Review, the Japanese Nikkei Inc.'s flagship publication and the largest financial newspaper, notes that other countries should follow the guiding example of Kazakhstan that voluntarily abandoned the world’s fourth nuclear arsenal. The article says that Nikki Haley, the American ambassador to the UN, has called Kazakhstan’s denuclearization as "one of the most important moments in the history of nonproliferation".

Another international publication, Indian newspaper The Financial Express, highlighted the importance and relevance of the nuclear disarmament agenda especially amid the crisis on the Korean peninsula. The authors noted Kazakhstan’s readiness to provide a negotiation platform.
