Will schools in Kazakhstan start working in traditional learning format?
Pupils in Kazakhstan may return to schools. Kazakh Ministry of Education and Science formulates proposals on the second stage of resuming regular work of schools. This was reported at a briefing in the Central Communications Service by Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister Yeraly Tugzhanov. He said that more than 2,400 children in Kazakhstan have been infected with coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic. 34 children are currently being treated. The virus is still dangerous for the population, that is why there is no need to rush to get back to the traditional learning format.
“In these conditions, the Government’s task is to maximally protect our children and Kazakh citizens in general from the dangerous virus. At the same time, if children could have a mild form of coronavirus, adults are at risk. They can then transmit the virus to others and give rise to a new infection outbreak. We have already experienced this. In this regard, it was decided in the first term of the academic year to switch some students to the distance learning,” said Yeraly Tugzhanov.
He backed up his words with the experience of other countries. Tugzhanov said that more than 100 countries in the world followed this learning format. Nobody wants to take a risk.
“Taking into account the epidemiological situation, in the first phase, we opened duty classes and small schools with a total of 800,000 students. To date, Kazakh Ministry of Education and Science has developed proposals for the second phase of resuming regular work of schools. I think that today these issues are the subject of discussion,” Tugzhanov stressed.
There are 3.4 million school students in Kazakhstan, of which 77 percent started the first term of the new academic year in distance learning mode. However, many parents remain against remote schooling. Social media are full of posts about the need to return to traditional learning. Tugzhanov assured that this issue will be addressed soon. He also stressed that all proposals received from Kazakh Ministry of Education and Science and Kazakh Health Ministry will be given full and detailed consideration by the government.
