Kazakhstan’s Spiritual Administration of Muslims makes a statement regarding funerals
The Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan (SAMK) urges the Muslims of the country to limit the number of people during memorial rites only to family members and close relatives or suspend them altogether. Kazakh Muslims are recommended to follow all sanitary requirements during the memorial services.
“The participation of only one clergyman and no more than 30 relatives are allowed. The total funeral prayer time should not exceed five minutes. A person with a fever or cough should not attend the funeral prayer. All those present should follow the sanitary norms, in particular, wearing masks, medical gloves and keeping a distance of at least two meters from one another,” stated SAMK Deputy Chairperson Yershat Ongarov at the press briefing.
Kazakh residents are also asked to refrain from holding of a ‘konak asy’ funeral dinner.
