Members of Kazakh authorities self-isolate to prevent COVID-19 spread
Kazakh Deputy Health Minister Lyazzat Aktayeva will assume the responsibilities of Kazakh Health Minister Yelzhan Birtanov who is currently being treated from coronavirus. This was reported by the ministry’s official representative Dias Akhmetsharip. He said that, despite the disease, Birtanov works remotely from the hospital and continues governing the headquarters. Lyazzat Aktayeva has been serving as the Kazakh Deputy Health Minister for the last three years.
“The Kazakh Health Minister who was diagnosed with the coronavirus and pneumonia is being treated in the hospital. Doctors said that he is in a moderate condition. He is being treated in accordance with the clinical protocol and bears the antiviral therapy very well,” commented Dias Akhmetsharip.
Due to the confirmed diagnosis of the Kazakh Health Minister, many other authorities who contacted with him had to switch to remote working. They are Kazakh Prime Minister Askar Mamin, Governor of Zhambyl region Berdybek Saparbayev and Kazakh Minister of Education and Science Askhat Aimagambetov. Kazakh Agriculture Minister Saparkhan Omarov and Kazakh Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources Magzum Mirzagaliyev, who also visited Zhambyl region, self-isolate as well.
“Magzum Mirzagaliyev flew with the Health Minister last Friday, so he isolated himself as a contact person. He has been tested negative for coronavirus and will be tested again at the end of the week. He holds all working meetings and negotiations online,” said the ministry’s press secretary Samal Ibrayeva.
Kazakh Defense Minister Nurlan Yermekbayev has voluntarily self-isolated as well. He had not contacted with Yelzhan Birtanov, had not contacted with Press Secretary of the Kazakh President Berik Uali and Member of the Kazakh Parliament Bekbolat Tleukhan. Yermekbayev has excluded all contacts with subordinates since June 11 because of the Moscow Victory Parade, where he will take part very soon.
“The Kazakh Defense Minister will participate in ceremonial events at the invitation of his Russian colleague, General of Russian Army Sergei Shoigu. The minister took the self-isolation measures taking into account the order of visits to foreign countries, the recommendations of doctors as well as the sanitary and epidemiological situation,” reported the ministry.
The activity of the Kazakh Ministry of Defense is being supervised via phone calls and videoconferences. The date when Nurlan Yermekbayev stops isolating himself will be clear after his arrival from Moscow, given his health condition.
