Kazakhstan creates volunteer support centers

The message of a nationwide project “Birgemiz: Taza Álem” (Together: Clean World) is to stand together to protect the environment. The project is being implemented as part of the Year of Volunteer, reported Civil Initiatives Support Center.

“55.7 million tenge (US$134,500) were allocated for this project, the goal of which is to involve citizens in volunteering in the field of environmental protection, cleaning rivers and forests, planting trees, training in sorting garbage, ensuring interaction with environmental volunteer movements aimed at protecting the environment and environmental safety,” stated in the Civil Initiatives Support Center.

Due to the project, Kazakhstan plans to expand citizen participation in the implementation of environmental protection initiatives, to train 1,000 Kazakh citizens, to intensify activity of non-governmental volunteer organizations and initiative groups involved in environmental protection activities and to popularize eco-volunteering among the youth.

“For this purpose, a draft Memorandum on cooperation with various eco-movements and interested in joint work organizations was developed in three regions. Volunteer support centers were created on the basis of youth resource centers in Kostanai region, West Kazakhstan region and Almaty region,” commented the organization’s representatives.

Online campaign was held as part of the project to increase the environmental education of people in Kazakhstan. It was dedicated to 50th anniversary of Earth Day. Various online webinars, master classes, quizzes and a special eco-quest were held as part of the campaign.
