Night of Power prayers to be read online in Kazakhstan
This year, the Night of Power and Excellence, which is considered by Muslims to be the holiest night of Ramadan, will occur on the night from May 19 to May 20 in Kazakhstan. According to the Islamic calendar, this date falls on the 27th night of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. It is believed that a prayer performed on the Night of Power is counted as if the prayer had been read for 83 years.
“The main feature of the Night of Power is that the first chapter (surah) of the Quran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad precisely on this night and therefore it is full of blessing and grace. All sins are forgiven on the Night of Power. Another feature of this night is that it is a night of consent. Allah blessed every minute of this night. One second of prayer on this night counts as a 23-hour prayer. If you pray for one minute, you will be rewarded as if you performed a prayer for 58 days. A one-hour prayer counts as a nine-year and eight-month prayer. If you perform the prayers all night, it will be equal to 83 years and four months of praying. That is why this night is rewarded with thousands of months of prayers,” says Yerbolat Zhusupov, the Chief Imam of Hazret Sultan Mosque.
But this year, the Muslims in Kazakhstan will not be able to visit the Mosque on the Night of Power due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Residents will observe the night from their homes.
“The threat of the epidemic still remains and therefore every Muslim must take part in preventing the spread of the infection. The safety precautions should be taken,” Zhusupov said.
This year, during the Night of Power, the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan will conduct prayers, sermons and lectures online.
