Abai’s ‘Words of Edification’ is translated into Portuguese
The presentation of Abai Kunanbaiuly’s book ‘Words of Edification’ translated into Portuguese was broadcasted on the Brazilian television channel ‘TV-Supren’, the press office of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry reported. During the event, Kazakh ambassador to Brazil Kairat Sarzhanov emphasized the significance of the book that encourages people to work, pursue education and high achievements in science, as well as to comply with the laws and understand the importance of people’s unity.
In turn, ex-Senator of the National Congress of Brazil, former Brazil’s Education Minister and university professor Cristovam Buarque, in his review of the book, praised Abai’s work. He said that the book is filled with a myriad of aphorisms that praise the patriotism and human courage, which should be brought up from an early age, as well as love and duty for the fatherland, and respect for elders.
“The book keeps the reader in suspense from the beginning to end in order not to miss the wise words about the meaning of life. As though, the author awakens the very thoughts that are sleeping deep within us. This is a skill and characteristic of a great poet. Abai is certainly among the greatest ones in the world,” Buarque concluded.
Abai’s ‘Words of Edification’ were translated into Portuguese by Edelcio Americo, a PhD in Philology and the professor at the University of Sao Paulo. In 2019, Americo worked on the translation of the book of First President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev ‘The Era of Independence’.
The book of the great Kazakh poet will be distributed among the educational institutions and libraries of Brazil. The electronic version of the book is available for reading and downloading on the website of the Kazakh Embassy in Brazil.
