Submissions for Smartphone Short Film Festival opens in Kazakhstan
The first ever festival of short films shot on a smartphone in Kazakhstan is open for applications. The contestants must be 18 years or older. Everyone can try being a filmmaker.
“If the filmmakers have a smartphone or a tablet, they can send their works without hesitation. There is a special condition for those, who are willing to shoot some scenes that require special effects using extra equipment, such as drones – the contestants are allowed doing so, however, such scenes should make at most 10 percent of the total length of the film. Everything else must be shot only on a smartphone,” said festival organizer Dmitriy Bainazarov.
The festival’s theme is related to the COVID-19 pandemic and it is ‘mask’.
“We have expanded the types of masks that the contestants can use in their films: from medical protective ones to theatrical ones. We have intentionally specified the theme of the festival to push people for creativity,” Bainazarov added.
The length of the film may range from one minute to 12 minutes depending on the category.
“For example, there is a category ‘L’ for large films from three to 12 minutes. ‘XS’ category is for films under one minute. ‘S’ category is for films with the length of one to three minutes. Music videos are also allowed to the contest,” Bainazarov said.
Applications can be submitted starting from April 12 until May 15. The winners will be announced on May 17 at an online awards ceremony. More details at mbfilmfest.com.
