Nauryz - Holiday of Spring and Nature’s Awakening
Nauryz is a holiday that goes centuries back. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic and cancellation of mass festivities, according to a tradition, people in Kazakhstan will celebrate Nauryz with their family members. This holiday marks the spring equinox. ‘Nauryz’ in the ancient Farsi language means ‘a new day’. The holiday has a strong symbolic meaning in the Turkic cultures. More than 300 million people in the Far East, the Balkans, Central Asia, the Caucasus and the Middle East celebrate the spring holiday. In 2009, the UNESCO recognized Nauryz as the world’s intangible cultural heritage.
