Olympic Flame Arrives in Japan Prior to Tokyo 2020 Games
Greece passed the Olympic torch to Japan as it was delivered at the Miyagi prefecture in Northern Japan. The 2020 Summer Olympics torch relay will kick off on the 26th of March in Fukushima prefecture. The local authorities urged the residents to avoid large groups during the ceremony due to the threat of the spread of coronavirus. The Japanese government and organizers are determined to hold Summer Olympics on schedule. They hope that the COVID-19 virus will not affect the games. Japan is strongly against the postponing of the Olympics or holding the games without spectators. The Tokyo 2020 Games are scheduled between July 24th and August 9th. According to the official data, there are more than 1,600 confirmed coronavirus cases in Japan with 40 deaths.
