Large international competitions have been canceled in Kazakhstan
Large international competitions have been canceled in Kazakhstan due to the coronavirus spread worldwide. The decision was made by the Kazakh Government. Sports quarantine will last at least until May. This doesn’t apply to the athletes, who are currently participating in championships overseas. They will get tested for coronavirus upon arrival.
“The Kazakh Ministry of Culture and Sports, due to the spread of coronavirus in the world has expanded to the dangerous level, recommends canceling the holding of international competitions with the participation of foreign citizens in Kazakhstan, which were scheduled for the first half of 2020. In addition, the Ministry advices cancelling the trips of the Kazakh athletes of various sports to countries with confirmed cases of COVID-19, as well as to refrain from travelling to the rest of the countries for protective purposes”, said Press Secretary, Sport and Physical Culture Committee, Kazakh Ministry of Culture and Sports, Raukhan Tugumbayeva
However, the order doesn’t apply to Davis Cup tournament, because the tennis players arrived to Kazakhstan before it was published. The Tennis Federation notes that it is likely that fewer spectators will come this time. Earlier the Education Department of Nur-Sultan city recommended limiting the events that require children’s participation. The Kazakh universities are preparing for a possible transition to the distance learning.
We are prepared to fully switch to the online format of learning, and to conduct educational processes remotely. Why we are ready is because there is one special platform, which our university has been using for already three years by now. Surely, the discussion will take place online.”, said Provost, Kazguu University, Sergey Pen
