First Kazakh Kurultai Held in Turkey

The first Kurultai or meeting of Kazakh religious scholars studying in Turkey was organized at the Erciyes University in Kayseri City.

At the meeting, representatives of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan headed by the first Naib-Mufti, staff of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Turkey as well as Kazakh scholars, teachers and students discussed the prevention of destructive religious groups as well as religious literary of the society.

The Kurultai, which is dedicated to the Year of Youth in Kazakhstan, is aimed at countering radicalization.

First Naib-Mufti of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims in Kazakhstan, Nauryzbai Taganuly said that there is cooperation established between the organization and the students studying in Turkey where discussions on religions are held regularly.

“We are confident that this cooperation will help fight against extremism and help increase religious literacy among the population,” he said.

A student of the university, Zhanuzak Alimgerei said that the Kurultai is the first event of its kind with the goal to carry out the prevention of religious extremism and terrorism among the young people who are educated in Turkey.

“The aim of the Kurultai is to bring traditional Islam to people and to educate the young people in the right direction,” he added.
