French Embassy in Astana Hosted Debates on Women in Modern Science
Astana hosted debates on women in modern science with the aim to address the matters on the improvements and strengthening of women’s position and opportunities in the industry.
The event, organized by the French embassy in Kazakhstan, was attended by civil society activists and well known cultural figures.
Counselor at the French Embassy in Kazakhstan, Laure Castaing said the embassy opened a French-speaking women’s club in Astana one year ago and held meetings with the club members several times in the year to discuss various women-related topics.
“Our event’s topic is women and science. We will discuss many things such as how many women work as researchers or engineers nowadays,” she said.
According to the United Nations Development Program, only 2% of women worldwide have a doctoral degree in science.
Kazakhstan’s National Science Report 2018 reveals that the total number of women with a doctoral degree in humanitarian and natural sciences in the country is 1,637.
