President of Kyrgyzstan announces his resignation
The President of Kyrgyzstan announced his decision to resign. In his address to the nation, Sooronbay Jeenbekov said that yesterday the Jogorku Kenesh approved the composition of the government, and decrees on the relevant appointments were also signed. However, it did not break the tensions in the country. Jeenbekov mentioned that nothing is more precious to him than the life of each fellow citizen, and the current situation is close to a bilateral conflict between protesters and law enforcement officers. He has taken the decision to resign in order to prevent bloodshed.
“Dear fellow citizens! For me, peace in Kyrgyzstan, the country’s integrity, the unity of our people and the tranquility in the society are above all else,” the president stressed in his address. Jeenbekov previously refused to resign.
