Kazakhstan to take part in technical audit of Sardoba Reservoir in Uzbekistan
The decision of the Kazakhstan’s participation in the technical audit of the Sardoba Reservoir in Uzbekistan was made during the meeting of the representatives of the two countries. According to the press office of the Kazakh Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources, the Minister Magzum Mirzagaliyev held negotiations with the Uzbek Minister for Water Resources Shavkat Khamrayev.
“During the negotiations, we came up to a joint decision that the technical audit of the Sardoba Reservoir will be conducted with the involvement of the international and Kazakh experts. Based on its results, the further decision on the fate of this reservoir will be made,” said Kazakh Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources Magzum Mirzagaliyev.
The parties also agreed to develop and sign the Intergovernmental Agreement on the joint management, use and protection of the transboundary water bodies. In addition, they intend to develop the Roadmap for cooperation in the field of water resources by June 15.
The meeting participants also agreed on plans for the growing season in 2020 in the Syrdarya river basin.
“We decided to organize the joint working group to monitor and control the abstraction of water at the main waterworks and water management sites,” Mirzagaliyev said.
According to the Facebook publication of the Kazakh Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources press office, the meeting participants agreed to work together on the water balance of the Syrdarya River’s water resources and considered the possibility of further discussion of the issue of water withdrawal limits in the Karadarya and Chirchiq river basins.
