Official Visit of U.S. Secretary of State to Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan and the United States are interested in strengthening bilateral cooperation. This has been announced at the meeting between President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and the US Secretary of State, Michael Pompeo, who is on an official visit to Kazakhstan.

The parties emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral relations in such areas as trade, investments, IT, promotion of democratic values and international counter-terrorism. The Head of State said that he plans to appoint a Special Representative for Afghanistan in Kazakhstan. Michael Pompeo praised the measures to return Kazakh citizens from the conflict zone in the Middle East as part of the Zhusan humanitarian operation. He emphasized the country's contribution to peace in Afghanistan as well as the improvement of the economy and human capital.

“We have so many success stories since both countries established diplomatic relations. The United States was the first state to have recognized the independence of Kazakhstan. We will never forget this historic fact and event. We enjoy close relationships in so many areas like a non-proliferation, fight against terrorism, economic cooperation. I believe that we have new issues that could be explored as soon as we are going forward with our cooperation. Taking this opportunity, I would like to extend to convey my best regards to President Donald Trump. We had a very short meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly and I look forward to having a meeting with him in any parts of the world,” said President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

Mister President, thank you for hosting me and thanks for your patience too. I had to delay the planned trip because of world events. Your point about our relationship is spot on. We agree that there are many great things happening between our two countries. You’ve always been a great partner in security in Afghanistan, as a partner for peace, as part of NATO. We now have tremendous economic opportunities between our two nations as well within opportunities for flights between our two countries. President Trump asked me to send his personal regards and we are happy to be here today,” said U.S. Secretary of State, Michael Pompeo.
