Ashgabat Hosted Meeting of Council of CIS Leaders
Ashgabat hosted a regular meeting of the Council of country leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev takes part in the international meeting. President Tokayev has spoken about the further development of mutually beneficial relations. In addition, President Tokayev highlighted that development of trade and economic cooperation should be prioritized among the CIS member countries.
“Our Commonwealth of Independent States will have to go through an uneasy but much-needed adaption process to changing realities. We have started modernization of the CIS countries based on the initiative of the First President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Abishuly Nazarbayev. The work on the Concept of Further Development and Strategy of Economic Development of the CIS has begun. I plan to continue this work,” Tokayev said.
Moreover, the Head of State offered to increase the share of electronic payments and revitalize free trade services. President Tokayev has also proposed the introduction of the unified Commonwealth Visa in the territory of the CIS. It can work as a Schengen visa and grant foreign citizens to visit all CIS member countries.
