K. Tokayev proposed to completely abandon nuclear weapons

President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev outlined a number of global problems and initiatives including those related to global security during his speech at the UN General Assembly.

Experts opined that currently the deterioration of regional conflicts and the threats associated with the proliferation of nuclear weapons concern all humanity.

“Kazakhstan has always been the initiator of the rejection and of the fight against the proliferation of nuclear weapons. The state showed the whole world that is possible. Kazakhstan received a guarantee from major powers to renounce the nuclear weapons. To date, Kazakhstan is a state that pursues a peaceful policy,” said Director of Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies, Assel Nazarbetova.

At the 74th session of the UN General Assembly, the Head of State had launched an initiative to completely abandon nuclear weapons. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that confrontation is intensifying in the world and in this regard effective security measures are needed.

Deputy Director of Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies, Almas Arzykulov believes that renouncing nuclear weapons is a very important initiative.

The President spoke about the relations with Central Asia. It was about mutual cooperation of the countries in Central Asia, about the economic, climate and water problems in the region.

“If all these problems are resolved, favorable conditions will be created for people to live,” he added.
