Astana will host VI Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions

The Kazakh capital is preparing to host a large scale event. On October 10-11, Astana will host the VI Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions. More than 80 delegates from 42 different countries will take part in the meetings. The event will gather the leaders of religious and international organizations, prominent political and public figures in order to find common solutions against the common threats and challenges of our time. This is why the VI Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions will be held under the auspices of ‘Religious leaders for a safe world.’

 - The President of Serbia, leaders of the world’s largest regional organizations, such as the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe have confirmed their participation. Delegations from countries such as Uzbekistan, Singapore, and Vietnam will take part in the meeting for the first time. The list of participants and leaders of religious communities is also expanding. For the first time, the Coptic Church which is one of the oldest churches in the Christian world is showing an intention to take part in the Congress.

Sessions aimed at tackling global challenges will be held at the international congress. They will cover four major themes, such as ‘Manifesto ‘The World. The 21st Century’ as the Global Security Concept’, ‘Religion amid Unstable Geopolitics: New Opportunities to Bring People Together’, ‘Religion and Globalization’, ‘Religious Leaders and Public Figures in the Fight Against Extremism and Terrorism’.

 - There are organizations and movements that are using religions as the excuse for their terrorist acts and to cover up their extremist activities. The congress participants and religious leaders will gather here to raise awareness on the peaceful nature of the religions. They will discuss the ways of consolidating efforts to prevent and combat terrorism and extremism.

A Peace and Harmony Museum is planned to be opened as part of the forum. At the congress, contributors to inter-faith harmony will be awarded the Astana International Award. Also, honorary medals will be presented to the prominent religions, public and political figures. The participants will adopt a declaration outlining the results of the Congress.
