Kazakhstan and Turkey are set to boost trade up to US$5 billion

Kazakhstan and Turkey are set to boost trade up to US$5 billion. The agreement was made during talks between presidents Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Nursultan Nazarbayev during the latter’s official visit to Ankara. During the meeting, the presidents discussed the most important aspects of bilateral cooperation and the strengthening of trade, economic, investment, industrial as well as transport, transit, cultural and social cooperation.

 -  Companies with Turkish capital involvement are successfully operating in Kazakhstan. For example, there are about 1,800 such companies in Kazakhstan. Last year, trade between our countries reached about US$2 billion. During the meeting, we reached an agreement to increase the trade value to US$5 billion and set a goal of increasing our trade to US$10 billion. The Governments of the two countries will work on the implementation of this task. Kazakhstan and Turkey have long been connected by the Great Silk Road. And we will use it productively.

 - We organized the third meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council in Ankara, which we began in 2015. We met in September last time which was during the 6th Summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States in Kyrgyzstan. At the meeting, all issues of bilateral cooperation were discussed with my esteemed colleague. A very large meeting was held.

The official visit of the President of Kazakhstan to Turkey provided a new opportunity for Kazakh-Turkish relations. At the investment forum in Ankara, more than 20 documents worth over US$2 billion were signed, which proves that the relations between the two countries are more stable and strategic.
