AIFC: Expert opinion
International experts are welcoming the opening of the Astana International Financial Center (AIFC) in Astana. They believe that the center provides more possibility to diversify the investment opportunities for the Kazakhstan and the region.
HEINER HARTWICH, REPRESENTATIVE, SWISS CONSULTING COMPANY:
- When I heard of the concept of the AIFC being developed I said this is very interesting nowadays to have a center also in English because linguistic problems sometimes are a bit hindrance in certain countries, to have a center which actually combines the efforts of West and East to come together. So this I find very interesting and very promising.
MARTIN EMCH, REPRESENTATIVE, SWISS CONSULTING COMPANY:
- I believe the center will be successful. I can see much expertise of the people working here. I know a lot of Kazakh experts in the field of finance, banking, investment and credit sectors, as well as government and private property management. The infrastructure and the investment opportunities will attract investors who require legal and sustainable infrastructure. We were told that the principles of the international law will be applied in the center. I think that the region needs such center.
Representatives of American business intend to use opportunities of the AIFC to expand mutually beneficial cooperation with Kazakh partners. The chairperson of the largest US Company, well-known lawyer, businessman and philanthropist Edward Mermelstein says that thanks to the work of the financial hub, new investors will come not only to Kazakhstan but also indirectly making the entire region interesting to investors.
EDWARD MERMELSTEIN, AMERICAN BUSINESSMAN:
- Taking the partnership between the Shanghai stock exchange, the Nasdaq and the AIFC to an amazing new direction. We look forward to the United States participating in many different business transactions and Kazakhstan as a result of the AIFC opening up to the rest of the world. The legal aspects both common law that is being used in the AIFC as well as the Islamic law will attract many new investors.
