President’s State-Of-The-Nation Address: Good education must start at an early childhood

Good education must start at an early childhood. President Nursultan Nazarbayev attaches great importance to the education system in the country. Teaching job requirements and educational methods must be reviewed, the president believes. Curriculums and teaching methods in public schools will be modernized based on the experience of the Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools. Academic autonomy will be increased in universities and institutes. The government will strengthen the quality control in a higher education system. President Nazarbayev also said that a polytechnic university based on the principles of Nazarbayev University will be established in Kazakhstan soon.

 - The President suggested that our secondary education should be based on the standards and best practices of the Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools. Performance and quality of the universities will be evaluated based on the employment rate of their graduates.

 - The President set the target for the universities to train specialists that will contribute to the economy. We should monitor and train those specialists that will be in demand. We must be able to forecast future jobs.

The focus in education is shifting towards the 4K model: development of creativity, critical thinking, communication skills and teamwork. The Kazakh experts say that the qualitative solution of problems in education will allow Kazakhs to reach a new level. The President has urged the government to pay special attention to the status of teachers.

 - In order not to lag behind time, we have to be able to bring up a new generation of modern and progressive people. I am glad that the president spoke about this and instructed the government to develop a law on the status of the teachers. We must raise the teachers’ social status and improve their professional training.

In his address to the people of Kazakhstan, President Nazarbayev highlighted that within five years, spending on education, science and health care will increase to 10% of the country's GDP. The relevant orders were assigned to the government. The experts say that solving the challenges in the social sector will significantly improve the country’s development level.
