Kazakhstan marks Nauryz, arrival of Spring

Today marks a big holiday in Kazakhstan–Nauryz signifying the arrival of spring and renewal of nature. Nauryz in Kazakhstan symbolizes fertility, friendship and love. On this special day people dress up, visit close people and wish each other long lives and prosperity. According to the solar calendar of the Eastern Turkic people, Nauryz marks the New Year. The ancient holiday was included in the UNESCO cultural heritage list in 2009 and a year later the UN General Assembly declared Nauryz an international holiday. Today Nauryz is celebrated in many countries around the world; it symbolizes spiritual unity of the Turkic nations.


 - Nauryz has existed for over 5,000 years. Our ancestors may have celebrated it before, but in its current state it is a common holiday for the Kazakhs, Azerbaijanis, Uzbeks, Kyrgyz. This holiday shows that the Turkic nations are ancient people. The arrival of Nauryz brings happiness to every house.

Nauryz has become a nationwide holiday in multi-ethnic Kazakhstan. It represents the friendship of people and inter-ethnic harmony. Nauryz is equally valued by all ethnicities living in Kazakhstan. Large-scale festivities are held across Kazakhstan. Nauryz is a messenger of a new life. Even the name of the holiday “Nauryz” is translated from Farsi as “new day”.


 - Nauryz is one of the brightest and greatest holidays of the people of Kazakhstan; it is one of the most favorite holidays. All the ethnicities of Kazakhstan celebrate it together. Every year as part of this holiday we share our kindness and love with those people who need it. We hold charitable events and charitable concerts.

Traditionally, the celebrations feature contests of akyns, competitions in national sports, concerts and theatrical performances are held in all the regions of Kazakhstan.
