‘The era of independence’: Economic reforms

‘The Era of Independence’ by President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev discusses the reforms aimed at diversifying Kazakhstan’s economy and creating export-oriented products. The President pays special attention to the formation of the market economy, increasing productivity and aligning trade policies with other countries.


"When the solid foundation of the new state was laid, it was necessary to set the course of events in the economy. First of all, it meant solving key strategic issues, on which our future depended. The country had to conduct market reforms and ensure economic growth. All the previous activities conditioned the prerequisites for this. In 1995, for the first time, the economy of Kazakhstan reached a positive trade balance due to increased exports, including agricultural exports."
