Kazakhstan provided US $450 million to other states as part of official development assistance. This was announced by Yerzhan Ashikbayev, Kazakh Deputy Minister of Foreign affairs, at a meeting of the Committee on Foreign Relations, Defense and Security. He said that the assistance has been provided since 1996 mostly to the neighboring countries to help during natural and man-made disasters, particularly, earthquakes and floods. In addition, Kazakhstan transferred money to the funds of international organizations. Kazakhstan assisted financially to resolve the migration crisis in Europe.
YERZHAN ASHIKBAYEV, KAZAKH DEPUTY FOREIGN MINISTER:
- It is help to the victims of various man-made disasters, or natural disasters in partner countries. This assistance was provided by wheat, flour, food and fuel oil. We send tents and sleeping bags. We also provide financial assistance.
DARIGA NAZARBAYEVA, MEMBER OF SENATE:
- Provision of humanitarian assistance is very important for any state. Peaceful and quiet life of our neighbors is a guarantee of our stability, and we should always remember this. It is quite disappointing that Kazakhstan's efforts on provision of humanitarian assistance and official development assistance in the world are not well known. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is not doing enough work in this regard. This is our country’s reputation. This characterizes our country as a conscientious partner, as a conscientious member of the world community.
