Exhibition held to mark 25th anniversary of CICA
Kazakhstan’s initiative on convening the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia was announced 25 years ago. The National Academic Library of Kazakhstan presented an exhibition of books, photographs, and rare documents from the First President's Archive, reflecting the main stages in the formation and development of the CICA. The idea of creating the forum was announced by Nursultan Nazarbayev at the 47th session of the UN General Assembly on October 5, 1992. According to Kairat Abdrakhmanov, Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan, the meeting was the largest and most effective platform for discussing the problems of collective security in the Asian continent.
KAIRAT ABDRAKHMANOV, FOREIGN MINISTER OF KAZAKHSTAN:
- We are very pleased to say that this initiative was successfully implemented. This is a great achievement not only for our diplomacy, but for our entire nation. Kazakhstan, as you know, is a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2017-2018. We are also making efforts to make the CICA stronger on this highest platform.
The CICA includes 26 member countries, 9 observers and a number of international organizations. The activities of the Conference are focused on such areas as military-political interaction, energy security, addressing new challenges and threats, cooperation in the environmental sphere, exchange of experience in the development of agriculture, tourism, and information technologies.
