Atyrau museum fund replenished with ancient artifacts

Atyrau Local History Museum was replenished with new artifacts. Among them are objects found during excavations of mounds and fortifications. There are also exhibits donated by local residents. For example, these are silver jewelry created by Kalmukan Erekenuly. The representative of the famous dynasty of jewelers lived in the middle of the 19th century.

 - I have been keeping them in my dower chest. Of course, they are dear to me but they should be displayed in the museum. Let people see the beautiful jewelry crafted by our ancestors. Maybe one of the young visitors would wish to become a jeweler after seeing them and revive our ancestors’ craft.

Modernization of public consciousness program helped to replenish the museum's funds. Excavations have been resumed in the region as part of the program. These gold and silver jewelry, bronze cauldron, weapons, inlaid mirrors were discovered in the summer during the excavation of the Sarmatian mound of the late Iron Age. The archeologists unveiled new facts about the life of the ancient people who lived near the Caspian Sea. Unique artifacts have been found during the excavations of the ancient Sarayshik and Aktobe-Laeti. A set of leather musical instruments is also valuable – there are a dauylpaz, an asa-tayak and a tuyak-tas.
