"Kazakhstan will gradually switch to the Latin script by 2025"
Kazakhstan will gradually switch to the Latin script by 2025. According to experts, the process will be piecemeal and convenient. Special commissions have been set up in order to work on solutions related to the transition to the Latin alphabet and adaptation of IT. Specialists note that the new script can be mastered in a short time.
ZHUMAZIYA ABDRAKHMANOVA, HEAD, DOSMUKHAMEDOV MULTILANGUAGE EDUCATION:
- The main part of the new alphabet is similar to one used by our ancestors. Of course, there are differences, but very little. This is related to diacritical signs. Most importantly, all original sounds are stored.
First, the translation to the Latin script is tested in selective schools of Kazakhstan. Within a year teachers will be trained and language courses will be opened for all Kazakhs. Representatives of the Atyrau youth organization offered their help to create an educational center.
RINAT GILAZHEV, HEAD, YOUTH ASSOCIATION:
- I think that an older generation will need such courses. We offer to open a center or local courses which will last for 1-3 and 6 months. We need to help people get used to the Latin alphabet and help them how to write. We plan to conduct a thorough analysis, consult with specialists and only then start conducting the courses.
