By the end of the year the spelling rules of the Kazakh language based on the Latin script will be developed. Astana hosted an expert forum where linguists and philologists discussed the stages of the new alphabet’s introduction and the further prospects for development of the Kazakh language. The preparation of training centers and specialists are prioritized.
YERBOL TILESHOV, DIRECTOR, SHAYAKHMETOV LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT CENTER:
- After the adoption of the new spelling rules, the Shaisultan Shayakhmetov center for languages development will organize special courses to teach the new script. Next year the budget on this occasion is being considered. Also, we plan to conduct the outreach seminars.
The transition to the Latin alphabet is a new stage of evolution of the Kazakh script. In addition, the scientists have considered the experiences of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan and Turkey, who have already made such a transition.
SHOLPAN ZHARKYNBEKOVA, PHD IN PHILOLOGY:
Today, I think that this is the best option. In the process of approval we will see the difficulties that we will face. Of course, the success of this very idea and the reform depends on the gradualness. There shouldn’t be any harsh spurts, everything should be harmonious and we have enough time for it.
