‘Burnoye Solar-2’ solar power plant’s capacity has doubled

One of the first solar power plants in Kazakhstan and the largest in Central Asia, the ‘Burnoye Solar’ in the Zhualy district of the Zhambyl region will produce up to 150 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year. The solar power plant’s capacity has doubled.  The second stage of the ‘Burnoye Solar-2’ power plant was built in just 10 months. 300 Russian and foreign specialists took part in the construction.


- When implementing the solar power plant with a capacity of 100 megawatts, we paid nearly 2.5 billion tenge of obligatory purchases to the budget. We also attracted US$35 million of foreign direct investment. Two projects of 100 megawatts were worth 50 billion tenge.

185, 000 panels were installed on the second stage of the solar power plant. In total, there are 377,000 solar cells with a capacity of 100 megawatts. The power plant is capable of providing energy to 70,000 homes. On sunny days, one station can generate up to 330,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per day. The work process is fully automated and is under the constant supervision of specialists.


- 50 megawatts are distributed to 16 inverter power stations. These stations are converted from the direct current to alternating current. Then all the power is distributed to the substation. With the help of a step-up transformer, the voltage increases from 20,000 volts to 220,000 volts.

Today, renewable energy accounts for a quarter of world electricity production. According to forecasts, the figure will reach 80% by 2050.
