Preparation for second COVID-19 wave
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting on preparations for the second COVID-19 wave. He paid particular attention to optimizing communications with foreign countries, strengthening border checkpoints and making COVID-19 testing available. President Tokayev noted that health workers will again take the brunt of the second coronavirus wave, so it is necessary to support them. On the instructions of the President, more than 150 billion tenge (US$349.6 million) will be allocated to health workers in the second half of the year. However, President Tokayev emphasized that bureaucratic obstacles are still being created in receiving allowances and insurance payments. In this regard, he instructed the government to pay all due bereavement payments to the families of health workers who died from coronavirus without detailed investigations. Kazakh Prime Minister Askar Mamin, Kazakh Health Minister Alexey Tsoy, as well as city mayors and regional governors made reports at the meeting.
