59 health workers die from coronavirus in Kazakhstan
At a briefing in the Central Communications Service, Kazakh Health Minister Alexey Tsoy reported that 123 health workers in the country caught the dangerous disease and 59 of them died. Having said the sobering statistics, he answered the questions about compensation for the infected doctors and those health workers who died during the fight against COVID-19.
“We received lists from the regions and sent them to Kazakh Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population. To date, there are 123 confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection among medical workers, who contracted the virus at workplaces, and 59 deaths, which are now also being reviewed at the level of Kazakh Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population," Tsoy said.
He also added that compensation issues will be administered by the responsible organization. If a medical worker gets infected with COVID-19, then one-time social payments from the State Social Insurance Fund should amount to two million tenge (US$4.819) and 10 million tenge (US$24,096) in case of death.
"Our job is to collect lists and pass them on. In addition to the lists, there are epidemiological maps that show where the health worker got infected: at work or at home," Tsoy concluded.
