Kazakhstan has not registered a single case of child death due to vaccination, Kazakh Health Minister states
Kazakh Health Minister Yelzhan Birtanov stated that Kazakhstan regularly conducts a comprehensive and independent study of all the vaccines that are used in the country. No deaths following the immunization has been registered in the Kazakhstan by now.
Birtanov said that the paragraph on compulsory vaccination in the new draft code ‘On public health and healthcare system’ was introduced based on the experience of developed countries. He emphasized that in the majority of countries worldwide there has long been a law on mandatory vaccination.
“Any bill is a science-based analytics. However, we are not ready yet to introduce fines for the lack of vaccination. The incomes of our population do not allow introducing them,” added Birtanov.
Kazakh Health Minister Yelzhan Birtanov noted that the new bill and the introduction of compulsory vaccination are related to the increasing number of immunization refusals.
Birtanov emphasized that the word ‘compulsory’ doesn’t mean ‘forced’. Parents can still skip vaccination by signing the vaccine refusal form. However, they must understand that by delaying or refusing immunizations their children will be potentially dangerous for other children in kindergartens and schools.
“Compulsory vaccination was introduced for the sake of those children who have contraindications to immunizations. We must protect them. Their number is much bigger. Healthy children are less likely to get sick or have severe consequences, while children diagnosed with cerebral palsy, oncology or chronic diseases suffer and die,” noted Birtanov.
Kazakh Health Minister Yelzhan Birtanov also said that diseases such as whooping cough, tetanus and poliomyelitis didn’t go anywhere. Vaccination is required in order to contain their spread. Parents of those children who do not have medical contraindications to any of those vaccines should think carefully before refusing immunizations.
“If you believe that you will be microchipped from the space, then, please, refuse the vaccines. However, as a citizen of Kazakhstan, you must immunize your child in principle. Your child, you and anyone may carry the risk of infecting other people. How can you not understand this?” said Birtanov.
