Global COVID-19 case count closes in on two million
According to the data from World Health Organization, the number of coronavirus cases worldwide approach two million. The global death toll for COVID-19 has passed 114,000.
The coronavirus has now infected over 560,000 people in the United States, according to Johns Hopkins University. The country still has the biggest number of COVID-19 cases. The U.S. deaths passed 22,000. More than 33,000 coronavirus patients recovered. Every U.S. State is now under a federal disaster declaration for the coronavirus pandemic for the first time in the U.S. history.
Italy remains one of the countries most affected by the coronavirus. The country recorded 437 deaths in the last 24 hours, which is its lowest daily death toll in the last three and a half weeks. Italy has had 156,000 confirmed cases of the virus. Of those, more than 3,000 patients are in intensive care unit. Nearly 20,000 people died.
Coronavirus situation in Spain remains grave. According to the latest data, the COVID-19 cases in the country surpassed 160,000 people. The number of deaths in Spain passed 17,000 mark.
The United Kingdom could be hit harder by the coronavirus than any other country in Europe, warned Sir Jeremy Farrar, a director of the Wellcome Trust and a member of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies, the committee which advises the Government on COVID-19. The recorded death toll among coronavirus hospital patients surpassed 10,000. However, the country’s official figures for COVID-19 deaths do not give a complete picture, as they do not include deaths in care homes.
The number of patients infected with the coronavirus in the U.K. continues to grow exponentially. The country has now reported a total of more than 85,000 COVID-19 cases. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, whose condition the nation was following, was discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment for coronavirus. On the advice of his medical team, he will continue his recovery from COVID-19 at his country residence in Chequers.
