The number of coronavirus cases keeps growing globally. To date, there are more than 1.4 million infected people and over 82,000 deaths.

The United States still has the biggest number of cases and deaths from the virus. A record number of people - 1,736 - died over the past 24 hours only, taking the death toll here to more than 12,000. The biggest number of dead people is recorded in New York. The number of infected patients overall exceeded 400,000.

According to latest data, over 1,000 people died from COVID-19 in 24 hours in France, bringing the country’s death toll to over 10,000. More than 110,000 people have already been infected. Johns Hopkins University reported that France has the biggest number deaths after Italy, Spain and the U.S.

We are in the ascending phase of the epidemic, even if it is slowing a bit. We have not yet reached the peak,” said head of the French public health authority Jerome Salomon.

To date, more than 40,000 people have recovered from coronavirus in Spain, where the number of cases reached over 141,000. The nationwide lockdown was imposed here from March 14 to April 26.

In Italy, the growth rate of coronavirus slowly decreases. Over the last day, the death toll reached 604, which is lower than the 636 seen the day before. The total number of cases has exceeded 135,000 since the start of COVID-19 pandemic. Over 17,000 people died.

Last night, Chinese authorities reopened borders of Wuhan, the epicenter of coronavirus outbreak, after 76 days of lockdown. Not a single case of the infection was registered here for the fourth day in a row.
