China to Produce 25 Types of COVID-19 Testing Kits
China intends to produce different types of testing kits for COVID-19. China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) has approved 25 testing kits in response to the coronavirus pandemic, including 17 nucleic acid testing kits and eight antibody testing kits, said an official with the NMPA.
“The testing reagents that received emergency NMPA approval are divided into two categories, namely, nucleic acid test kits and antibody test kits. The latter are used either as a supplementary testing method for suspected cases whose nucleic acid tests are negative, or are used along with the nucleic acid test in the diagnosis of suspected cases. The antibody test kits can't be used for the confirmation and exclusion of COVID-19 infections, nor are they suitable for screening by ordinary people. They can only be used by medical authorities,” said Deputy Director of the NMPA Department of Medical Device Regulation Zhang Qi.
China’s authorities are very active with providing the world with the humanitarian aid amidst coronavirus pandemic. Within the last month, the country has delivered supplies worth US$1.5 billion to different countries. Airbus Concern has delivered nearly four million protective face masks to several European countries fighting COVID-19. This has been the company’s third cargo flight back from China with essential medical supplies since mid-March.
