Chinese Scientists: Recovered Patients Can Spread Coronavirus
In a new study, Chinese scientists found out that people they treated for COVID-19 still carry and spread the virus. The researchers urge to extend self-isolation for those who were released from hospitals after recovery.
The patients did not have any symptoms after recover, but later the samples from throat swabs demonstrated the remaining virus. “Half of the patients kept shedding the virus even after resolution of their symptoms,” said Dr. Lokesh Sharma, co-lead author and instructor of medicine.
Patients carry the virus for one to eight days after symptoms ware gone. “Extend your quarantine for another two weeks after recovery to ensure that you don't infect other people,” Chinese professor, Doctor Lixin Xie recommended.
