EU Joint Statement on Coronavirus Pandemic
An extraordinary virtual summit of leaders of the world's major economies to discuss the coronavirus pandemic was held on Thursday, March 26. European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen participated in the G20 leaders’ videoconference.
In a joint statement following the videoconference, the two Presidents said that Europe is ready to set up an international ‘online pledging event’ to ensure adequate funding to develop a vaccine against COVID-19. They also highlighted that fast, massive and coordinated global action is necessary on the health and economic fronts to avoid a further economic crisis.
The Presidents of the Council and the Commission announced that the EU is committed to international cooperation to fight against pandemic and continues to assist vulnerable countries around the world, especially in Africa.
