Blood Service in Kazakhstan on Par with European Service
Blood donation service in Kazakhstan has achieved impressive results in its development, say foreign experts. To date, 18 blood donation centers operate in the republic.
The technologies used for laboratory testing and processing of donated blood are not indifferent to the technologies used in the United States and Europe.
“There is a unified standard of blood components production across Kazakhstan. We release concentrates of thrombocytes for sick children and adults who have blood leukemia. We also release other elements of the blood which are necessary for different illnesses,” said Director of Center of Blood in Zhambyl Region Gulam Umarov.
Not everyone can become a donor. The donor has to be healthy. The donated blood will be processed by stages of tests before it is being transfused into the receiver.
“The quality of laboratory research has a big importance. We were the first to reach this quality in the Commonwealth of Independent States. We had the two-stage research of the donated blood. First, it is the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay technique. The second is polymerase chain reaction,” said Director of Research-Production Center of Transfusion, Saniya Abdrakhmanova.
Nearly 270,000 people donate their blood per year in the centers. Over 1,000 blood transfusions are conducted every day.
