Astana EXPO 2017

The 162nd session of the General Assembly of the International Bureau of Exhibitions (IBE) was held in Paris. The Kazakh delegation presented a detailed report on the results of holding Astana EXPO 2017. In his speech, the head of the National Company "Astana Expo 2017" Akhmetzhan Yessimov noted that three main goals were set: to ensure the participation of more than 100 countries and 7 international organizations, attract more than 2 million visitors and hold the event at the highest level. All goals were fulfilled. Akhmetzhan Yessimov also highlighted the important role of the IBE in the successful holding of the EXPO and on behalf of Nursultan Nazarbayev presented the order "Dostyk" of the II degree to the Secretary General of the International Exhibitions Bureau, Vicente Loscertales.


- The International Bureau of Exhibitions, and the countries which participated in EXPO 2017, they all mark the high level of organization and that Kazakhstan has reached those tasks and goals it set before the beginning of the exhibition. In addition, during the preparation and holding of the exhibition, the International Exhibitions Bureau and its head provided assistance, support, and advice.

115 countries and 22 international organizations took part in EXPO 2017. The number of visitors exceeded the plan twofold, amounting to almost 4 million people. More than one million three hundred thousand people visited Kazakhstan’s "Nur Alem" pavilion. In total, Kazakhstan attracted foreign tourists from 187 countries.


-  What we see here is the fruit of many years of very close cooperation not only with the expo itself but with the president of the republic and whole government of Kazakhstan. We are honored and touched by this award, it shows that our friendship is deep and our relations have always been not only professional but profoundly close

The economic effect of holding EXPO 2017 in Astana is obvious. As noted in the report, Kazakhstan’s GDP grew by 4.3% during the preparation and holding the exhibition. The volume of production of goods increased by 70%, and the demand for tourism services grew by almost 80%. The unique exhibition facilities will be preserved as its heritage. The EXPO site will accommodate a new financial, educational and tourist centers.
