Economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and United States
Astana hosted a forum of the American Chamber of Commerce recently. The topics of discussions include the prospects of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United States in the Republic’s priority sectors, particularly mining, agriculture and renewable energy. Many American companies are planning to take part in the diversification of Kazakhstan’s economy. The United States is the second largest contributor of direct investment into the economy of Kazakhstan. Over two decades since Kazakhstan’s independence, American businesses have invested more than US$ 50 billion into the country. Currently, more than 500 companies with the participation of American capital are successfully working in Kazakhstan.
UMIRZAK SHUKEYEV, KAZAKH DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER:
- We are working on diversification of our agriculture. We are not focusing only on the wheat production. Inside the crop production, we are also diversifying oil crops, vegetables, fruits and so on. We need to collaborate with our foreign partners.
GEORGE KROL, U.S. AMBASSADOR TO KAZAKHSTAN:
- The large US energy companies like Chevron and Exxon work very successfully here in Kazakhstan. We are thinking how we can attract the US companies engaged in other business, for example, in the information technology, agriculture and so on. I think there are great prospects especially, in agriculture.
