Berlin hosts screening of film ‘Kunanbai’
The presentation of the historical drama ‘Kunanbai’ took place in Berlin. The screening of the film was attended by German politicians and representatives of the Kazakh diaspora, including students studying in the German capital. The film directed by Doskhan Zholzhaksynov tells about the life of Abai’s father, the volost judge Kunanbai Oskenbaiuly, as well as about traditions and life of Kazakhs in the 19th century. The film screening was held as part of the celebration of the 175th birth anniversary of the great Kazakh poet at the initiative of the Kazakh Embassy in Germany. In addition, a thematic exhibition was held as part of the film presentation. The event guests were given a book with a collection of Abai’s works translated into German.
“Unfortunately, I am not familiar with Abai’s work. This is one of the reasons why I came to the film screening. I also was given Abai’s book as a gift and in the near future I want to read his works. I really liked the movie. I learned more about the history of Kazakhstan, how Kazakhs lived before, and how traditions and laws influenced their lives,” said Thomas Geckle, Head of Department in Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy
“The film is stunning. In fact, I did not expect to experience so many emotions from one movie. This film actually conveyed not only our national culture, but also the atmosphere, nature, how it all looks in reality. I didn’t expect that the actor who played the leading role of Kunanbai, would be able to convey his charisma. I am very proud that Kazakhstan made such a film,” shared a student Alizhan Mami.
