How Abai’s works are promoted abroad?

The famous works of Abai Kunanbaiuly will be translated into French. They will be published in books, which are planned to be handed over to the book depository of the University of Rennes in two months, informed Doctor of Medicine and Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan in the city of Rennes Zhanar Avar-Turebayeva. She said that, at the same university, students will be taught Abai Studies and lectures on Kazakh culture.

“We also are currently forming the Quartet Al-Rennes band, which will perform folk songs by Abai,” Avar-Turebayeva said.

In China, Abai Readings have already become a tradition. They have been held for the fifth year in a row, only this time - in online format. The event, organized by the Embassy of Kazakhstan in China, was attended by local representatives of government agencies and academic circles, as well as students who actively learn Kazakh language. Abai Readings’ participants noted a special role of the philosopher in strengthening cultural ties between the two countries. In addition, in honor of the 175th birth anniversary of the great Kazakh poet, the Kazakh Embassy regularly publishes a translation of Abai’s ‘Words of Edification’ in Chinese social media.

“By reading the works of Abai, you get to understand Kazakh people and Kazakhstan. I think that this is my historic task. Abai’s ‘Words of Edification’ and poems were published in Chinese in one book called ‘Abai’, which has more than 500 pages. Today’s Abai Readings were wonderful. The poet’s works were recited both in Kazakh and Chinese. Such events should be held more often to spread the works of Abai. I believe that understanding Abai is important for strengthening friendship between the two countries,” said the writer Akbar Mazhituly.

“I study at the Beijing Foreign Studies University. While learning the Kazakh language, I was deeply interested in the works of the great Kazakh poet and philosopher Abai Kunanbaiuly. Like Confucius in China, Abai is a sage and although his teachings are deep, they are easy to understand. I am very grateful to the Embassy of Kazakhstan for organizing today’s event. It was my pleasure to participate in it,” said Zhang Yundi, Beijing Foreign Studies University master’s student.
