Museums in Kazakhstan open again

There is great news for the history and art fans: museums in Kazakhstan open again. Majority of them have been receiving visitors since the beginning of this month. Experts assured that museums work observing with sanitary requirements and safety measures. National Museum of Kazakhstan became one of the first to start working. It opened an exhibition dedicated to the memory of the Honored Figure of Kazakhstan, academician of the Kazakhstan National Academy of Science, Professor Nurlan Batpenov. The museum’s administration also presented the list of other upcoming events.

“In the near future, the National Museum will open halls dedicated to the 750th anniversary of the Golden Horde, “Great Ulus”, “Ancient Turkic civilization”. There will be also halls dedicated to Abai Kunanbaiuly (175 years), Zhuban Moldagaliyev (100 years), historian Yermukhan Bekmakhanov (105 years), composer Nurgisa Tlendiyev (95 years), the first Kazakh anthropologist Orazak Ismagulov (90 years) and many others,” said Almaz Nurazkhan, deputy director of the National Museum of Kazakhstan.

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in the state-of-the-nation address announced that it is important to introduce and use the capabilities of modern technologies to strengthen the work on the study and research of the genealogical and historical features of the past. He said that the digital transformation is a basic element of all reforms and a key instrument for achieving national competitiveness, noted Almaz Nurazkhan.

“National Museum of Kazakhstan will keep giving priority to the development of digital technologies, especially to the creation of networks of virtual museums, the process of digitizing all museum resources. Despite the current situation, the museum staff will keep working to study history and develop national culture,” said the deputy director.

While all cultural institutions were closed, art has rapidly switched to online format. Most of the country's museums and galleries shifted the load to the existing websites, which made it possible to organize, for example, a free tour and introduce its best exhibits. Experts said that now this work is rapidly expanding and updating.
