Literary bus stops introduce to works of Kazakh poets
Now people can learn Abai’s fifteenth “Word of Edification” in three languages, see his portrait, read lines from works of Kasym Amanzholov, Mukagali Makatayev and Sultanmakhmut Toraigyrov not only in libraries, but also during waiting buses at bus stops. Such a literary bus stop was first established on one of the central streets in Karagandy as part of the Modernization of Kazakhstan’s Identity program. In this way, organizers plan to popularize works of Kazakh poets.

“The main goal is to introduce to people Abai’s works and his “Words of Edification” as well as poets of Karagandy and Kazakhstan,” said Bayan Nurtayeva, Head of the Department of Culture and Language Development in Karagandy.

The plan is to establish the next “literary bus stop” on one of the main streets of Karagandy soon. The bus stops are illuminated at night and covered with anti-vandal plexiglass that is protective against outside influences. Texts at the bus stops will be changed regularly and will also involve works of local authors. If this project will receive good reviews, such bus stops will be established in other districts of the city.
