Online poetry battle dedicated to Abai launches in Nur-Sultan

Finding an extraordinary, vivid, maximally creative approach to reading the poetry of the great Kazakh poet is the main requirement for the participants of the online poetry battle dedicated to the 175th anniversary of Abai Kunanbaiuly. The Russian Center for Science and Culture (RCSC) in Nur-Sultan launched the new season of the online poetry competition for schoolchildren. The gifted participants recited the masterpieces of the Kazakh poet online.

“The kids impressed us, the members of the jury, with the depth of their understanding of Abai’s work, as well as with a bold and fresh interpretation of his brilliant poetic lines. Each of the participants in the competition will receive commemorative gifts from the RCSC, and the winners will have the right to demonstrate their skills in the season finale, which will take place in December,” said Olga Skalchuk, Program Coordinator of the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Nur-Sultan.

Participants from other parts of Kazakhstan took part in the battle ‘Abai vs Abai’ as well. Video applications were submitted not only from the schoolchildren living in the Kazakh capital, but also from Karkaraly, Petropavl, Taraz and Temirtau. Each of the participants had the right to choose his favorite work by Abai, the language and form of presentation, as well as the scale of experiments with the visual range.

“Poetry battles among schoolchildren are a kind of a novelty of the Russian Center, and I must admit, a phenomenally successful one.  When we finished the first season at the end of last year, we received dozens of requests from children, their parents and teachers asking to continue this project. We are happy that, despite the quarantine, we managed to come up with a new format of the organization of the literary competitions that everyone likes so much,” the project coordinator, famous film and art critic Alexandra Lumpova shared.
The organizers say that the next poetry battle will take place in September. They promise to announce the topic of the next competition on the official website of the RCSC in Nur-Sultan in the near future.
