Annual “Night at the museum” campaign to be held online this year
Every year the world celebrates the International Museum Day on May 18 with traditional “Night at the museum” campaign. The project will be held online in 2020. The National Museum of Kazakhstan invites to visit exhibitions without leaving home. Visitors will be able to enjoy a virtual tour of the halls and listen to well-known scientists of the country. As part of the project, documentary films “Uly Dala zhauharlary” (Pearls of the Great Steppe) and “Ulttyk museum – ult ainasy” (National museum is the mirror of the people) that were made in the halls will be presented to viewers. The Night at the museum starts at 17:00 and will last until 21:00.

The Central State Museum of Kazakhstan in Almaty also joined the celebration by hosting an online exhibition “Night at the museums – 2020: chronicle of the best events in 15 years”. It will involve “The wonderful world through children’s eyes” by participants of the first republican competition of illustrations for works by Belger; various video programs on the cultural and educational activities of the museum; video presentation “Unique artifact: the history of one item from the funds of the Central Museum of Kazakhstan”; “Akkuishik” (swan); “A fragment of the mummy, Thebes”; “Dildanyn dombyrasy” (Dilda’s dombyra). Abylkhan Kasteyev Kazakh State Museums of Arts will begin the campaign on May 18 and will continue the next day. Despite the remote format, visitors will enjoy the rich program including various video tours, virtual vernissage and a live broadcast of video tours.

International Museum Day was established on May 18, 1977 at the General Conference of the International Council of Museums. The first “Night at the museum” took place in Berlin in 1997.
