Atau Short Film Festival Kicks Off in Nur-Sultan
Short film festival Atau has kicked off in the Kazakh capital. Young filmmakers from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan are among the participants. They will compete in three nominations for best acting, best directing, and audience choice award. The event’s organizer Aigerim Mazhitkhan believes that the festival is a good starting place for novice filmmakers.
“Art expert Aigul Ibrayeva and I decided to launch this project in 2019. Last year the students of the Zhurgenev Kazakh National Academy of Arts were among the participants. This year, we attracted some sponsors and changed the format. We invited the talented filmmakers from Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Hopefully, this film festival will be held annually,” said art expert, Aigerim Mazhitkhan.
Dante Gustav and Hristina Belousova presented a short film “Lumiere” at the festival. They hope that their film will win in several nominations.
“This is the first documentary film for us, and we will be screening it in Kazakhstan for the first time. I’ve been to many countries, but it is my first time here. That’s quite meaningful to us. We hope we can get the audience interested in our works. We also hope to be inspired by other works. We think it is what matters. We are curious to see the works by the Kazakh filmmakers and learn what topics they are currently passionate about,” said young filmmakers from Uzbekistan, Dante Gustav, and Hristina Belousova.
