Challenge Marking Abai’s 175th Birth Anniversary Goes International
The literary challenge honoring the 175th birth anniversary of famous Kazakh poet and philosopher Abai is approaching.
A challenge with popular hashtag #Abai175 is going global in social media.
Users from different parts of the world are posting videos of them reciting Abai’s poems, playing his songs and reading from his essays.
The challenge has been joined by many prominent statesmen and public figures like Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Kazakh Information Minister Dauren Abayev and Eurasia Writers Union chairman Yagub Ömeroglu.
Professor Abraham Attah Ogwu from the United Kingdom read Abai’s poem translated in English.
A state commission was established to mark the 175th birth anniversary of Abai Kunanbayev.
Hundreds of different events will be held to honor his legacy, including science conferences, translation and publication of his works in foreign languages.
Abai’s museum ‘Zhidebay-Borili’ will undergo modernization.
UNESCO and TURKSOY will hold events commemorating Abai as the challenge #Abai175 continues.
