For the first time in the history of Astana Piano Passion, there are two Grand Prix owners.

Results of the fifth international festival of classical music and the competition of young pianists, Astana Piano Passion 2019, have been concluded in Kazakhstan’s capital. The winners of the prestigious musical contest were awarded on the stage of Astana Opera. Well-known masters of classical art led by honorary chairperson of the competition, People's Artist of Russia Denis Matsuev, have evaluated the works of talented young pianists.

Prizes of the jury of the competition were distributed by age groups. 7 to 18-year-old pianists took part in the musical contest. They arrived in the capital from various parts of the world, including from Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, China, Australia, South Korea, Canada, America, Japan, and the European countries. Two contestants were awarded Grand Prix at once for the first time. Adrian Romoff from the United States and Pyotr Akulov from Russia won the Grand Prix.

- The very fact of participating in this competition is a great success.  There were wonderful participants from Kazakhstan. As for the other contestants, their performances were very successful. They are very capable and have great potential for growth. They also have multiple opportunities for continuous growth.

Based on the rules of the competition, every contestant had to perform a composition by a Kazakh composer. Unique skills and performance of a Canadian musician impressed both spectators and judges.

- I am playing the Kazakh piece which was required in this competition. It is ‘a Legend about a Dombyra’ by Mendygaliyev.  I did not have any friends from Kazakhstan but during this competition, I met loads of people and I am very happy to call them my friends.

Four contestants of the Astana Piano Passion will take part in the 16th International Tchaikovsky Competition, which will be held in June in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
